Homemade Play Doh.

On Sunday I made playdough for AWS.
It turned out better than it has ever come out before. I was so pleased.

First we mixed all of the dry ingredients in our saucepan. THEN we added the water, oil, and coloring... And stirred until it came off of the sides of the pan. Then out it came to cool and knead. The blue came out so pretty... AWS was very pleased. The blue turned out to be a fantastic choice.

We also explored textures, imprints, and sculpting with the dough.
I had went out and bought number and letter stamps the other day (Target $1). And some "counting shapes" that were in different shapes made out of foam (Target $1) and some other odds and ends around our house. It was a great learning experience.

 AWS getting right into it.

The little foam shapes.
The letter and number stamps from Target.
 A look at the environment.

I encourage everyone to make their own!

The recipe I used:

Cooked Play Dough

Ingredients:
- 1 cup of flour
- 1/4 cup of salt
- 1 tsp. cream of tartar (found in the spice section, makes your playdough last longer, but optional if you decide to opt out)
- 1 cup of water
- 1 tbsp of oil
- Food Coloring (optional)

Combine your flour, salt, cream of tartar (if you're using it) in your sauce pan & mix it all around. Add your water, oil, and coloring (if you're using it) and cook it over medium heat. Mix until smooth.. And continue stirring until the dough sets, and pulls away from the sides of your pan. Then allow to cool and knead. Store in an airtight container or bag.

These ingredients make as much dough as I have pictured.
Nontoxic and not harmful if ingested. I can't promise it will be tasty though.
With older children you could add glitter, but it's a option up to you.

Anyways.
Tons and tons of fun to be had there.
